The FRAY subfamily of Ste20-like kinases in D. discoideum

Fray1 and Fray2 represent the FRAY-subfamily of Ste20-like kinases in D. discoideum. See sevkin for more information on Ste20 kinases and a suggested nomenclature for this family of kinases.

In humans this family is represented by OSR (oxidative stress responsive kinasae, a name that is a bit misleading as nobody showed a link between OSR and oxidative stress) and STLK3/SPAK. The fruit fly contains only the kinase Fray in this subfamily.

The Schleicher group is currently characterizing the phenotype of knockout mutants.
