PakG - member of the the Pak-like subfamily of kinases

The Pak-like subfamily is part of the larger family of Ste20-like kinases in D. discoideum (see sevkin for more on Ste20-like kinases).

The Pak-like subfamily is specific for D. discoideum and the kinase domains of its members PakE, PakF, PakG and PakH, are closer related to GCKs as to PAKs (see also phylogenetic tree sevkin). They contain a possible regulatory domain C-terminal to the kinase domain and, additionally, contain a N-terminal regulatory domain with a functional PDB/CRIB domain characteristic for PAKs (Goldberg et al.).

The Schleicher group is working on Ste20-like kinases in Ditcyostelium, and so far was unable to get a knockout for this gene.
